Client: Lord Elgin

Location: Dunfermline Abbey

Challenge

The 700th Anniversary of the victory of King Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn was marked in June by a Service of Thanksgiving in the Abbey Church of Dunfermline, the last resting place of this King of Scots. Organised by Lord Elgin a descendant of King Robert, Sign Plus was commissioned to undertake the design and printing of the invitations and Orders of Service whilst also tasked with reproducing 18 ceremonial banners and developing a means to display them within the old Nave of the Abbey Church.

Approach

Rather than simply hang them from high level wires Sign Plus designed and fabricated bespoke powder coated black steel frames which allowed each banner to hang freely. The detail of each banner was reproduced in the design studio and then digitally printed onto woven polyester with a Velcro fixing at the head of each to allow easy mounting on each frame.

Results

The Sign Plus install team positioned these as requested within the Nave and much positive comment was received and indeed photographs were circulated around the media. Most importantly the client was delighted! The interior of the old Nave was enhanced by these brightly coloured additions as can be witnessed from the photograph.
